Warren A. Romsos (Romsaas)

January 6, 1921 to June 11, 2009

Warren Allen Romsos, a proud Norwegian of Minden, NV passed away at Barton Memorial Hospital, South Lake Tahoe, CA on June 11, 2009 at age 88.

Warren was born to Edith and Olaf Romsos on January 6, 1921 and raised in Kramer, North Dakota until 1942, when he moved to San Diego, CA and served in the US Navy during WW II. He married Margaret Silvia Thorsteinson in December, 1943 and was happily married for 56 years until her death in 1999.

Later, during WWII, he worked at Lockheed in Burbank, CA. He raised his family in North Hollywood, CA where he held a number of salesman jobs throughout his career in Southern California, namely for Maytag and Frigidaire.

He moved to South Lake Tahoe in 1979 and would often say, “I don’t need to go to heaven after living at Lake Tahoe, I’ve already been there.” During “retirement”, Warren was the manager of Carson Furniture at Round Hill, NV for 8 years. He also worked for 3 seasons at the US Forest Service-Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, as a road and trail technician where he enjoyed exploring Tahoe’s landscape. In 1995, Warren and Margaret moved to Minden, NV to escape shoveling snow, yet still be close to family and the Lake.

Throughout life and retirement, Warren brought laughter to friends and strangers alike. He enjoyed people, telling stories and jokes, reminiscing about the old days, gardening, baking, playing cards, visiting friends and family in North Dakota, and spending time with his family in Lake Tahoe.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, and son, Brian Romsos of South Lake Tahoe; brothers Stanley Romsos of North Dakota and Everett Romsos of Carson City, NV, and his sister, Lois Whalen of North Dakota. He is survived by his daughter, Jody, and son-inlaw, John Underhill of South Lake Tahoe; grandchildren Scott Romsos of North Hollywood, Shane (and Mollie) Romsos of South Lake Tahoe, Matt (and Danielle) Underhill, Mitch (and Sarah) Underhill, and Corrie (and Brian) Aggers of South Lake Tahoe. Warren had four blue eyed great-grandchildren that he adored; Mattison and Marin Underhill, and Lars and Lauren Romsos of South Lake Tahoe, CA. He is also survived by his dear sister, Leila Mae Long of North Dakota. At family gatherings, Warren would often joke, “If it weren’t for me, none of you would be here.”

A private memorial will be held in August 2009, at the family’s Lake Tahoe cabin.

The Romsos and Underhill families would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the ICU and Med/Surge nursing staff at Barton Memorial Hospital for the great care they gave Warren during his last weeks of life.
