Warriors earn first league victory

Whittell High School earned its first Northern 2A League boys’ basketball win on Saturday, beating Silver Stage 47-43.

Junior Blake Werle stepped up to make four free throws in the final 47.2 seconds as Whittell held off the Nighthawks.

Silver Stage rallied from a five-point deficit at the half to lead by as many as nine points in the second half. Whittell rallied at the line, making 12 of 19 attempts.

Werle led the Warriors with 12 points and eight rebounds. Cody Nelson added 10 points, Alex Potnick chipped in 10 points and five rebounds and Michael Koskin pulled down seven rebounds.

The Warriors are scheduled to play at Incline on Wednesday.

Silver Stage completed a series sweep of the Whittell girls, winning 34-25 Saturday.

Senior Isabel Concha-Foley led the Warriors with 15 points and 15 boards. Gabriella Tracy contributed eight points and four rebounds and Emily Harris had two points and eight rebounds.
