The injury list for the Whittell High School boys’ basketball team is growing.

Whittell lost three more players in a 57-33 nonleague defeat to Rite of Passage on Tuesday night in Yerington.

The Warriors finished with six players after Alex Potnick, Conner Ferris and Shawn Mand went down with injuries. Potnick may be out for several weeks after suffering an ankle/foot injury, according to coach Tyler Rose. Ferris and Mand didn’t finish the game because of undisclosed, nagging injuries.

“We’re plagued by injuries right now,” said Rose, who is also missing seniors Alex Vogt (elbow) and T.J. Kolesnik (thumb).

Sophomore Garrett Bronken topped the Warriors with nine points, and Ferris scored seven before an injury forced him out of the game at 5:38 of the third period. Senior Tanner Sigel chipped in seven points and six boards, while senior point guard Blake Heldt-Werle contributed six steals, five assists, five rebounds and five points.

Derek Heldt-Werle scored 14 points in the Whittell junior varsity’s 48-37 defeat to ROP.

The Warriors (3-7 overall record) isn’t scheduled to play again until Jan. 14 at North Tahoe.

“We have some days off to get some healthy bodies,” Rose said.
