Warriors’ second-half rally falls short at Smith Valley

A second-half Whittell High rally fell short on Tuesday night in Smith Valley.

The Warriors outscored Smith Valley by 10 points in the third quarter, but the Bulldogs hung on for a 46-39 nonleague boys’ basketball victory.

Junior Alex Potnick scored all 18 of his points after halftime when the Warriors battled back from a 12-point deficit. Whittell got as close as two points in the fourth quarter.

“In the third quarter, we just took it to them defensively with some full-court pressue, but we just ran out of gas,” said Whittell coach Tyler Rose.

Senior Michael Koskin scored eight points for the Warriors.

Whittell (0-2) will participate in the Dayton tournament Thursday through Saturday.
