Warriors’ spikers sweep Silver Stage

Whittell High School swept Silver Stage in three games on Friday night to collect its second Mount Rose League volleyball match.

Behind Marissa Besson’s seven aces, four kills and 11 service points, the Warriors downed the Nighthawks 5-21, 25-16, 25-13 in Zephyr Cove.

Also for the Warriors, Darby Reeder made six kills and four service points, Megan Mize delivered six kills and Rachel Laub had 10 dig.

“They played well and are becoming more of a unit,” said Whittell coach Nate Byrne.

Whittell will try to avenge an earlier defeat to Yerington when the Warriors play host to the Lions on Saturday at 1 p.m.

“We didn’t do so well (against them) at their tournament,” Byrne said. “We’re a different team than we were then, and I think we’re going to give them a run for their money.”
