Washoe County Sheriff’s Office picnic brings community members together for special day

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev.— The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office held their community picnic at the Ridgeline fields at Incline Middle School Saturday, Sept. 16, with hundreds of people pouring in to show their support for local first responders and community.
Captain of the Incline Village Substation, Blaine Beard, was extremely proud of the turnout, as well as all of the different ways the picnic allowed the community to interact with local agencies and organizations.
“There’s several hundred people here and they’re continuing to pour in,” said Beard during the picnic. “So it just shows the kind of community we have. It shows the amazing support that we have for the Sheriff’s Office and all the other local entities and agencies as well.”
There were a number of different booths set up at the picnic for community members to engage with, ranging from Sierra Community House to the Tahoe Fund, from Diamond Peak Ski Resort to Clearly Tahoe.
Beard estimated there were around 45 booths on display. Families were able to go through the booths to learn more about organizations in the area, along with play fun and interactive games.
In addition, there were multiple displays from Washoe County which included a look mounted horse unit, motors unit, K9s unit, RAVEN, Marine 9, the bomb squad, and the search and rescue teams. Each location was accompanied with members of the team that were able to explain the ins and outs of their units.
WCSO Sheriff Darin Balaam was also able to honor multiple members of the community and deputies for their services and commitment to making Incline Village and Crystal Bay safe and secure places to live.
Throughout the event, food was served, including hot dogs and cheeseburgers, along with chilled drinks and a place to sit down and enjoy the meal.
Organizations involved in helping the event happen include, but are not limited to, the Incline Village General Improvement District, Incline Village Crystal Bay Association
Overall, the successful event comes as the substation in Incline Village became fully operational again at its original location at 625 Mt Rose Hwy earlier in September.
