Weather Service: Storm to arrive Saturday, 1-2 feet possible at the lake
A winter storm watch remains in effect from Saturday evening through late Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
A strong low pressure system off the California coast will pull moisture northward to the central and northern Sierra on Saturday. Snow will develop by Saturday evening and will increase and become heavy Saturday night and Sunday. The system will merge with a colder low dropping south on Sunday for continued snow through Sunday night.
In addition to the snow, strong and gusty winds will blow around the falling snow and snow on the ground creating travel hazards, especially in the higher elevations and over area passes.
Snowfall Saturday night through late Sunday night could total 1 to 2 feet down to lake level with up to 3 feet possible near the Sierra crest.
There is a potential for significant snow accumulations that may create hazardous winter driving conditions.
