Weather Service: Strong, gusty winds through tonight
A fast moving cold front will bring strong, gusty winds to the northern and central Sierra tonight as it moves through the region, according to the National Weather Service.
West to southwest wind gusts between 40 to 75 mph are expected along the ridgetops through this evening in the higher elevations of the Sierra. Wind speeds will diminish after midnight once the cold front moves east of the region, according to the Reno-based weather service.
Meanwhile, a lake wind advisory remains in effect until 11 p.m. Southwest winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts 35 to 40 mph will continue through this evening, causing rough chop on Lake Tahoe.
