Weather update: So now they’re calling it a ‘watch’

The original godfathers of the 1980s-90s indy folk sound, REM, fronted a song where the lyrics cryptically asked “Should we talk about the weather? Should we talk about the government?”

In Tahoe, the weather and government are, arguably, the two most talked about topics in circles that run from ski bums to white collar bureaucrats.

Skiing and snowboarding probably come in third and fourth, but REM is from Athens, Georgia, not the Sierra Nevada so they probably didn’t know any better.

So here’s something to talk about and discuss amongst yourselves:

A winter storm watch is in effect from Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service in Reno announced tonight.

Here’s what they had to say:

“Snow will develop and intensify Thursday afternoon and continue into Friday. Snowfall amounts of 6 to 12 inches are possible at lake level with 1 to 2 feet above 7,000 feet.”

Go ahead and talk amongst yourselves….
