With several inches of snow already on the ground early Wednesday, the Lake Tahoe Basin can expect more snow through the morning.

A winter weather advisory from the National Weather Service is scheduled to remain in effect until 1 p.m.

Wind gusts and snow will likely reduce visibility at times on area roadways, according to NWS. Tahoe could see total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches, with localized amounts of up to 8 inches. Above 7,000 feet could see up to 10 inches.

“Even light snowfall causes major travel delays, especially during periods of high traffic volume,” NWS warns. “Be sure to allow extra time to reach your destination. Leave extra space between vehicles since it takes longer to stop on slick roadways. The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 5-1-1.”

A cold front is slated to move into the area after today’s snow storm.
