Wednesday weather report

It will be a day filled with sunshine and plenty of wind as a very strong, cold storm out of the Gulf of Alaska prepares its descent into Northern California and the Sierra Nevada. A high wind watch is in effect beginning at 11 a.m. this morning.

Today will be sunny, with a high near 65. Breezy, with a west wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Tonight expect partly cloudy, with a low around 43. Breezy, with a west wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 49. Breezy, with a west wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph and 45 over the mountains and ridgetops.

Thursday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. Snow level will drop to about 5,000 feet. North wind between 5 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. The Lake Tahoe Basin and higher elevations can expect some snow accumulation.
