Wednesday’s ski and snowboard report for Sierra-at-Tahoe, Heavenly and Kirkwood

A new storm system should arrive by late this afternoon. Here is today’s ski and snowboard report for South Shore’s closest ski resorts, Sierra-at-Tahoe, Kirkwood Mountain Resort and Heavenly Mountain Resort.

Tuesday’s split storm didn’t pack the punch that was expected but it did drop an additional 4 to 6 inches overnight. The groomer’s pick of the day is Comet. On the California side there’s Gondola, Aerial Tram, Gunbarrel Express, Canyon Express, Powderbowl Express, Patsy’s, First Ride. On the Nevada side there’s Tamarack Express, Comet Express, Big Easy, Dipper Express and two surface lifts, Magic Carpet and Mitey Mite as the groomed trails.

Powder conditions exist today at Sierra-at-Tahoe. Another system is on the way this afternoon which could dump as much as 2 feet at Sierra . The resort reports one inch of new snow overnight. It was 30 degrees at last report at the resort’s base and 27 degrees at the summit. Sierra reminds skiers of the upcoming Christmas holiday festivities that begin on the mountain Friday. Santa will be on the slopes as well as his reindeer, music, snowmen and snowwomen docorating contests and more.

Kirkwood Mountain Resort has fetched 15 to 20 inches out of Tuesday’s storm. This morning the resort reports a temperature of 23 degrees, with light to moderate winds.

Today’s forecast calls for light snow today and heavy snow tonight. Fifteen to 19 inches may fall.

The resort will extend its season pass sale through the week.

Highway 88/Carson Pass on the Tahoe side is open with four-wheel drive or chains required. Highway 88 East/Carson Spur (Jackson side) is open with four-wheel drive or chains required.

There are 7 trails open and 5 trails groomed

Stomping Grounds is open with some features

Cross Country trails are open daily with 8 kilometers of machine groom track in the meadow plus 30 kilometers of snowshoe trails. The hours of operation are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
