Weekend forecast: Near-record high temperatures today
August 15, 2008
Daytime temperatures will continue well above normal this weekend under a sharp upper level ridge of high pressure over California.
The build up of heat and instability in this light flow pattern will result in some afternoon cumulus build ups and isolated thunderstorms mainly along the Sierra crest each day. Highs today are expected to reach the upper 80s to mid 90s around the lake or around 10 to 15 degrees above the normal for this date.
Lows tonight are forecast to drop into the mid to upper 40s with light winds.
Look for more clouds developing and spreading into the Tahoe area on Saturday and Sunday in a light southeast flow aloft.
Any cloud cover could have a moderating affect on Temperatures, keeping afternoon highs mostly in the mid to upper 80s. Light winds are forecast under this high pressure ridge except for strong gusty winds near any afternoon thunderstorms.
