Wendell E. Horton

Private services are planned Jan. 7 for Wendell E. Horton, who died of a heart attack Dec. 16, 2005, at his home in South Lake Tahoe.

Wendell was born May 30, 1936, in Wood, Pa., to Ewell and Valesta Horton. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from San Jose State College and had been employed as an executive engineer for FMC Corporation in San Jose. After retiring four years ago, he moved to the home he built in 1980 in the Heavenly Valley area of South Lake Tahoe. Wendell loved his home and living in Tahoe and enjoyed his many friendships. He had a strong belief in Jesus Christ and lived his life accordingly.

He is survived by daughters, Marissa Horton and Mallory Horton of San Jose; adopted daughter, Laura Walkup of Nipomo, Calif.; granddaughter, Caiden Horton; grandsons, Christopher and Andrew Walkup; brothers, Jesse C. Horton of New Castle, Pa., and Douglas Horton of Florida.; sisters, Nancy Newman of New Castle and Kim Looney of Wichita, Kan., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Richard Lee Horton.

A private memorial service for family and friends will take place at 1 p.m. Jan. 7 at his home. Anyone who wishes to attend should call Nancy at (530) 541-4132.
