The South Lake Tahoe Branch Library will offer a free computer class from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the library, 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd.

The course will introduce basic e-mail skills for the beginning computer user. Participants will set up an e-mail account, send an e-mail, reply to an e-mail and send an e-mail with an attachment. This is an introductory course for people with little or no e-mail experience. To take part in the class people must have some experience using a computer mouse. A free mouse tutorial is available at the library.

Participants may sign up by stopping by the library or by calling (530) 573-3185 during library hours. The computer lab is closed to the public during classes.

For anyone wishing to practice computer skills outside the classroom, the South Tahoe Branch Library offers a free public computer lab with nine computers, including one Spanish language computer. Users enjoy 30-minute sessions of free computer use on a first-come, first-served basis. The lab computers run Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, typing tutorials and games for children. Use of the computer lab is free. Patrons under 18 years of age must have parent or guardian permission.

Grief support group to meet

The Barton Hospice Grief Support Group meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon the first Thursday of every month at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd. The next meeting is this week.

The support group is facilitated by Rebecca Phillipson, LCSW. All people grieving the loss of someone close are welcome. Call the hospice office at (530) 543-5605.

Luncheon to be held next week

The South Lake Tahoe Branch of American Association of University Women will meet at 11:30 a.m. on March 9 at the Kokanee Cafe (student center) at Lake Tahoe Community College. A buffet salad luncheon will be served for $13.

South Lake Tahoe resident JoAnn Conner will present the topic “Identity Theft: We Are All At Risk.” Conner is an independent associate, director, and area co-ordinator for Pre-Paid Legal Services Inc.

RSVP for the luncheon to Sylvia no later than 10 a.m. March 7 by calling (775) 783-8471. All interested persons in the community are welcome to hear the program at 12:15 p.m.

Alzheimer’s meeting slated

The two local Alzheimer’s Support group meetings have been consolidated into one monthly meetings. The support group meets at 5:30 p.m. the fourth Thursday of each month at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd. The next meeting will be March 24.
