Donations, volunteers and blood givers are being recruited at the South Shore.
Jeanine McEntee is heading up organizational meetings for several projects and fund-raisers for the American Red Cross. Today there will be brain-storming meetings at the Riva Grill. The meetings will be upstairs from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and 6:30 to 7 p.m.
“We are desperate for computer savvy people,” McEntee said.
Also the American Red Cross in Reno is gathering people to head to the Gulf Coast to work as volunteers. That meeting will take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Volunteers must complete some training and be willing to spend at least three weeks at the Gulf Coast. The meeting is at the Morrison University Building, 10315 Professional Circle. Call the Red Cross at (775) 721-7220.
Also, a blood drive is planned for Sept. 23 at South Lake Tahoe location to be determined.
On Saturday there will be a hurricane relief benefit from 6 to 10 p.m. at the American Legion Post 795. The music will be from Johnny “Cash Only,” a tribute to the man in black.
Hurricane spurs a garage sale
“Due to a generous number of items donated to the Tahoe-Douglas Chamber for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts and the difficulty in transporting these goods to the impacted areas, we are conducting a yard sale on Saturday” said Kathleen Farrell, executive director of the Tahoe-Douglas Chamber.
Donated items for the yard sale can be dropped off at the Tahoe Douglas Chamber’s office or at the site of the yard sale, 3071 Sacramento Avenue between San Francisco and Modesto Avenues in South Lake Tahoe.
“Funds raised at the yard sale will be donated via the Tahoe-Douglas
Chamber to the American Red Cross to assist survivors of Hurricane Katrina,” Farrell said.
Volunteers are needed Friday afternoon to sort and price the goods.
Volunteers are also needed early Saturday morning to help set up the goods and work the sale.
Contact: Tahoe-Douglas Chamber at (775) 588-4591 or Don
Regis-Bilar at the yard sale site at (530) 541-7720.
