The Citizens Alliance will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at the El Dorado County Library, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Discussion will include the Nov. 7 election, upcoming city of South Lake Tahoe redevelopment, and the future of the South Lake Tahoe airport.

Award applicants are being sought

Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra and SI of South Lake Tahoe are seeking applicants for their joint recognition program targeted to young women who make the community and the world a better place. The clubs are members of an international volunteer service organization for business and professional women.

The Violet Richardson Award honors young women between the ages of 14 to 17 for volunteer action, such as fighting drugs, crime and violence; for cleaning up the environment; and for working to end discrimination and poverty.

The Violet Richardson Award begins at the local Soroptimist club level, where the type of award varies according to club preference. The clubs select at least one person to compete for the regional award of $1,000. In addition, winners are the regional level can name their preferred volunteer organization to which $1,000 will also be donated. One finalist will be chosen from among the 28 regional winners for an additional award at the national level including a contribution of $2,500 to the finalist’s volunteer organization.

Applications for the award program are available at South Tahoe and George Whittell high schools, at churches and libraries and from Soroptimist by calling Karen Johnson at (530) 542-5750 or Jennifer Scanio at (530) 541-6681, Ext. 11. Applications must be returned to Johnson at P.O. Box 18727, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96151 no later than Dec. 1.

Pop Warner to hold raffles

South Tahoe Pop Warner’s Jr. Midget Cheer Squad will be traveling from South Lake Tahoe to Orlando, Fla., Dec. 3 through Dec. 9 for the Pop Warner National Cheer Competition. To raise the funds for the National Competition, South Tahoe Pop Warner Jr. Midget Cheer Squad is hosting four raffles. Dozens of local companies have donated terrific prizes.

South Tahoe Pop Warner cheerleaders will be at various locations selling raffle tickets through Nov. 9. Look for them at the local post offices and shopping centers. The drawings will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at the SLT Recreation Complex, 1080 Rufus Allen Blvd. If you have questions contact Christey Weinmeister, South Tahoe Pop Warner director of cheer, at (530) 544-1567 or (530) 416-1680.

Raffle tickets prices are: Snowmobile, $20; Snowblower, $10; Chainsaw, $5; general raffle for more than 75 prizes, five tickets for $10.

Raffle tickets may be ordered by mail by sending number of tickets requested and check to South Tahoe Pop Warner Cheer, C/O Christey Weinmeister, P.O. Box 14503, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96151. Include number of tickets, name, mailing address and telephone number. Make checks payable to South Tahoe Pop Warner and allow three days for delivery of raffle tickets.
