Tahoe Youth & Family Services is offering an alternative gift-giving idea.

What if you could save gas, wrapping paper, gift boxes, gift tags and your valuable time this holiday season? Now you can.

TYFS is offering the “gift that gives twice.” This season, show everyone on your holiday list how much you care – give a gift in their honor to Tahoe Youth & Family Services. TYFS will send them a Christmas card noting the donation you have made in their name.

Include names and addresses, and TYFS will do the rest, including postage. At this point, you can expect a 24-hour turnaround time. Cards are a minimum of a $15 donation but are not limited to that amount.

For more information and to arrange a donation, contact Julie at Tahoe Youth & Family Services at (530) 541-2446, ext. 104, or (775) 4202, ext. 104, or e-mail julie@tahoeyouth.org.

Alpen Sierra Coffee Company and the South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center have adopted a local family for Christmas. The community is invited to join Alpen Sierra’s employees in the giving season to make this Christmas special for our adopted family.

See the wish list at the Alpen Sierra Coffee Company Café, 3940 Lake Tahoe Blvd., for gift ideas. Alpen Sierra is open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week.

For more information, call (530) 544-7740.

The Breast Cancer Support Group will not meet in December. The next meeting is Jan. 17 at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

The city of South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor school-age Christmas break activities through Jan. 4 at the complex, 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd.

Children may sign up for one day or come all eight days. The cost is $20 per day except Thursdays, which are Fun Trip Days; the cost is then $28 per day. Prior registration is required for all Fun Trip Days.

Some activities planned for Christmas break are swimming, bowling, movies, sledding and a trip to Reno Kings Roller Rink, Chuck E. Cheese and Wild Island. Register at the Recreation and Swim Pool Complex. For more information, call (530) 542-6056.
