El Dorado County Citizen Advocates for the Protection of Elders is a volunteer citizen advocacy program commissioned to ensure the protection of vulnerable older adults and to help them maintain dignity and quality of life in their homes.

CAPE hopes to identify and prevent all forms of elder abuse, including physical, emotional and financial or abuse by neglect.

CAPE volunteers are affiliated with the Elder Abuse and Protection Unit, whose members include law enforcement, the district attorney, public defender, area agency on aging, adult protective services, long-term care ombudsman, public guardian and other county programs and services that address the needs of vulnerable elders.

To volunteer or report suspected abuse, contact Debra Brown, CAPE program coordinator, at (530) 642-4860.

Robert Bender, M.D., FAAF, will present the fourth in a series of talks tonight about how people are being poisoned and are sick because of the food they eat.

The presentation is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Hosted by Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, the free program will include information on how people can avoid toxic overload from the foods they eat and the household and personal care products they use.

Participants will learn how to read labels, what foods to eat for health, what to avoid and how to shop.

To make a reservation and for more information, call Cheryl Millham at (530) 577-2273.
