April is Child Abuse Prevention and Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Call Lisa Schafer at the South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center at (530) 544-2118 for a calendar of events.

The Women’s Center and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department will offer a free women’s self-defense class in Spanish on Thursday and in English on Friday. Both sessions will begin at 6 p.m. in Room G3 at Lake Tahoe Community College.

Also, Freshies will host its annual fundraiser for the Women’s Center from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, during which 100 percent of the profits will go to support SLTWC programs and services.

Barton Memorial Hospital is seeking 20 volunteers for an evacuation practice drill from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Volunteers will receive a free lunch. To make a reservation, call Jaymee Willison of the American Red Cross at (530) 544-2657, or e-mail jaymeeintahoe@yahoo.com.
