The American Legion will host a birthday and retirement party to honor Eugene Ross on Saturday from 6 p.m. to closing time.

After serving four years as commander, he is retiring because of health issues. Armed Forces Day also will be celebrated at the event.

There will be finger foods and a no-host bar. Minors are welcome before 7:30 p.m. The deep Fried Acoustic Band also will be on hand to entertain partygoers.

The American Legion Post 795 is located at 2748 Young in South Lake Tahoe. For more information, call (530) 541-8788.

Come and have fun at Saturday Night Bingo this Saturday.

Bingo games, open to all members of the public 18 years of age and over, are on the first and third Saturday of each month. Early Bird games begin at 5:30 p.m., and regular games start at 6 p.m. The games are at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center at 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd. There are 17 basic games, which last until 9:30 p.m. Refreshments, including coffee, tea and pastries, will be served to players.

Come for fun, companionship or even win some money. This is a fundraiser to pay for insurance, so there can be activities at the center. Volunteers are needed and appreciated. Volunteers are needed to assist with the Saturday evening bingo games once or twice a month for the following positions: set up, picking up doughnuts, check-in desk, and collecting, counting and balancing of the evening’s proceeds.

If you are interested in volunteering in any of these areas or have any questions, please contact John DeMasi at (530) 541-2773. You may also call the SLT Senior Center for information at (530) 542-6094.

The Friends for Yes on Measure A Campaign will be hosting a Gala Dinner and Extravaganza on Saturday at South Tahoe High School. Tickets are $50.

A catered, semi-formal dinner will be featured. After dinner, there will be performances of acting, singing and dancing by students and faculty.

To purchase tickets, call Mark Garratt at (775) 691-4000. All proceeds go to the YES on Measure Campaign to fund Lake Tahoe Unified School District school site improvements, part of the Lake Tahoe School Safety and Education Improvement Bond.

Help also is needed at the call bank. If you have some time and would like to help, the Measure A headquarters is set up at the Relax building, next to Steamers on Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe. Call Lois Seidel at (530) 544-2081 to volunteer, or for more information on Measure A, go to http://www.TahoeYesOnMeasureA.com.
