Get a hot dog or burger, and adopt a dog or cat during the Douglas Animal Welfare Group’s (DAWG) “Hot Dog” pet adoption barbecue from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Douglas County Animal Shelter, 921 Pinenut Road, Gardnerville.

With each adoption, DAWG will offer free pizza coupons, a training coupon, a free microchip to find lost pets and free spay or neuter of every adult dog or cat. For more information, call (775) 782-3202.

Join the Tahoe Rim Trail Association for its annual Backcountry Camp and help improve the trail and restore the Big Meadow Trailhead.

The camp will take place Aug. 16 and 17 at Big Meadow. Campers also can meet at 6 p.m. Aug. 15 for dinner and camping at the campground adjacent to the trailhead.

Participants must bring their own camping equipment, long pants and shirts with sleeves. The fees are $25 for adults and $15 for children younger than 12. All meals and snacks are included in the fee. Deadline for registration is Wednesday.
