The Tahoe Rim Trail Association is offering members heading into the backcountry free canisters for storage. Nonmembers can join the association for $35 and use the canisters.

Game Tech International donated the lightweight containers, which have a seven-day capacity and built-in tiedown straps. To reserve a canister, call (775) 298-0012.

Safe Choices urges people to learn how to tell the difference between the facts and the hype on alcohol: Be smart, read between the lines and don’t serve alcohol to teens. It’s unsafe, illegal and irresponsible.

Brittney Cummings, a 2008 graduate of South Tahoe High School, will be the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of South Lake Tahoe’s dinner Aug. 12.

She will talk about her 2007 National Immunization Day trip to Nigeria to bring awareness of Rotary International’s effort to eradicate polio.
