Before heading off to the Victoria Fringe Festival in Victoria, British Columbia, “Lysistrata’s War” will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday at Lake Tahoe Community College’s Duke Theatre.
Co-creators David Hamilton and Mark Williams fashioned a show around the Greek play “Lysistrata” and scored four stars during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland in 2005.
Set during the Peloponnesian War, the story of Lysistrata tells of how she brings the women of Athens and Sparta together to refuse sex with the men until they stop the war.
The musical production explores the more serious issues of individuals and societies at war, and it doesn’t sidestep the current U.S. situation in Iraq.
