The Pop Warner Football and Cheer board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex, 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd. This is a crucial meeting before the season starts and it is mandatory that all board members and coaches for the 2004 season attend. Volunteers are still needed for the 2004 season and should also attend. Yacht Club to hold barbecue

The South Lake Tahoe Yacht Club is planning its second annual Big Summer Barbecue Saturday at Tahoe Paradise Park in Meyers.

The barbecue begins at 3 p.m. with good fun, good food and good company. There is a charge of $15 per person and children 10 and under will be admitted free of charge. Horseshoes, croquet, badminton and tennis will be available. The menu includes a choice of salmon or chicken, garlic bread, scallop potatoes, fruit, bean salad and pie. Sodas, beer and wine are included.

The South Lake Tahoe Yacht Club serves members in both California and Nevada and is open to all who are interested in boating and good times. Call Commodore Marianne Bennett at (530) 544-5850 for more information about membership.

Flea market at Senior Center

The American Association of Retired Persons, chapter 2617, will sponsor a flea market Saturday in the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center parking lot, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Sales hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The public is invited to come and be sellers or shoppers for all the good usable items such as collectibles, crafts, jewelry, household and yard items and much, much more that individuals will be selling.

Individuals who have good usable items to sell should sign up now for rental tables or spaces by stopping by the Senior Center office between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. Table rental is $4 for use of half a large table or $8 for a long table or space. Set-up time is 7:30 a.m. the morning of the sale. Tables are limited, so seller should sign up as soon as possible.

American Legion benefit concert

The band Cash Only will play a benefit concert for veterans and youth programs from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday at American Legion Post 795, Lake Tahoe Boulevard across from the Red Hut. All ages are welcome.

The fund-raiser will include a fried chicken dinner with salad, beans and dessert for $5 and a no-host bar will be available. Everyone is encouraged to come early and visit the arts and crafts show in the parking lot, which opens at 10 a.m.
