The 22nd annual Tahoe Classic tennis tournament has been scheduled Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Zephyr Cove Park, Highway 50 and Warrior War.

Entry fees are $80 per team per event. No partial entries will be accepted. Directors are Hersh Herschman, Sheryl Herschman and Greg Painter. For more information contact Hersh Herschman at (775) 588-3688 or mail entries and checks to him at P.O. Box 11463, Zephyr Cove, NV 89448.

Starting times on Friday are: Super Century/Century, 7:45 or 9:30 a.m.; Women, 7:45 a.m.; Men’s A, 9:30 a.m.; Men’s B, 7:45 or 9:30 a.m.; Mixed B, 11 a.m.; Mixed A, 3:30 p.m. This is an A-B doubles tournament and open teams are not welcome.

Players may enter a maximum of two events, one of which must be either mixed or the Century or Super Century division. There will be a consolation tournament for all divisions. People who enter two events must be prepared to play four matches daily. To qualify for the Century Division, participants and their partner’s ages must total at least 100 years. New this year is the Super Century, where partners ages must total at least 120 years.

Reading ends with ice cream

The Lake Tahoe Branch Library in Zephyr Cove will celebrate its summer reading program with an ice cream party. The special event will take place Thursday at 2 p.m. in the library.

Participants will make homemade ice cream in-a-can. Children should provide their own toppings such as chocolate sauce, fruit, nuts, cherries and whipped cream. The library needs clear coffee can lids that fit a 13-ounce coffee can. Safeway and the library will furnish the rest of the supplies. Children must register by today to participate.

“Discover New Trails @ Your Library” is the theme for the Douglas County Public Library 2003 summer reading program. Reading records must be turned in by Aug. 27. For more information contact the Lake Tahoe Branch Library at (775) 588- 6411. The library is located at Highway 50 and Warrior Way in Zephyr Cove.

Sign-ups starting for city volleyball

The city of South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation Department will take sign-ups through Aug. 13 for the A & B Leagues for Mens and Womens four-person volleyball. All leagues start in September, with games on Wednesday nights.

Returning teams have until Aug. 13 to sign up. Any spots left can be taken by new teams after that date. For more information or to sign up call the Recreation and Swim Pool Complex at (530) 542-6091 or stop by the complex at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd.

Class of ’74 has August reunion

South Tahoe High School Class of 1974 will hold its 34th class reunion Aug. 14.
