What’s Happening- Master class will focus on dance

Trisha Hanada-Rogers, director of the dance program at Mira Costa College in Oceanside, Calif., will teach a master dance class on Saturday, June 16, at Lake Tahoe Community College. The class will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in Room G3.

Hanada-Rogers will teach elements of Raqs Sharqi, also known as belly dance. The class will focus on the technique and aesthetic of this ancient dance form. Veil work, finger cymbals, improvisation and shimmy will be covered. Participants should bring a veil or 3 yards of lightweight fabric.

Hanada-Rogers also will teach some of the popular Latin American social dances, including the cha cha and the samba, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Room G3. These dances have a strong rhythmic base and the class will focus on timing, footwork and styling. There will be a short dance demonstration at the end of the class.
