Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner — which, in America, means that it’s about time to get your drink on (if you need an excuse to do so). The holiday celebrates the Mexican Army’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla back in 1862, but in the United States May 5 is widely known as a day to indulge in libations — most of which include tequila.

Whether you’re visiting South Shore for the first time or are in need of a refresher of the Mexican restaurants in town, here are the top spots to grab a margarita on Cinco de Mayo this year.

Margaritas Mexican Café

How can you not pick this place when “margarita” itself is in the title? Blended, on the rocks, in a pitcher — this place has it all. Swing by for happy hour from 3-6 p.m. for special deals, too.

Margaritas is located at 2494 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Learn more about the restaurant by calling 530-544-6907.

Latin Soul Restaurant

Prickly Pear, Kiwi Jalapeño, Latin Soul and Strawberry — the four margaritas this establishment has on the menu are diverse, but all made with Corralejo Tequila. The first three are made with agave nectar, but Prickly Pear also includes prickly pear puree and lime salt, while the Kiwi Jalapeño is made with muddled fresh kiwi and Latin Soul is a simple combination of the tequila and nectar. The Strawberry margarita is a blended concoction with fresh strawberries.

Latin Soul Restaurant is located inside Lakeside Inn and Casino at 168 U.S. 50 in Stateline. Learn more at http://www.lakesideinn.com.

Azul Latin Kitchen

This Heavenly Village eatery pours tequila flights and creates margaritas with freshly squeezed juices. If you’re looking for a dynamic atmosphere, this is it. With live music every day and a daily happy hour menu, you won’t be lacking a good time.

Cantina Bar & Grill

This location’s extensive margarita menu does not disappoint, and is most likely the reason why the spot earned Tahoe’s Best Margarita three years in a row. With multiple flavors and the option to enjoy your drink blended or on the rocks, it’s a great spot to spend Cinco de Mayo.

Cantina Bar & Grill is located at 765 Emerald Bay Road. Additional details are available at http://www.cantinatahoe.com.
