Whittell baseball cruises at Yerington tourney

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Whittell baseball team began its quest for a second consecutive state championship in impressive style, outscoring four opponents 62-9 in four victories on Friday and Saturday at the Yerington tournament.

Senior Julian Washalefsky turned in several sparkling performances on the mound for the Warriors, who defeated Silver Stage 11-0 and Incline 27-0 on Friday.

Whittell then beat Lone Pine 8-6 in one game on Saturday, then came back to defeat Lone Pine 16-3 later in the day.

The Warriors (4-0) host Smith Valley in a non-league game on Wednesday at Lampe Park in Gardnerville.
