TAHOE CITY – The Whittell basketball teams split their Mount Rose League games at North Tahoe on Friday, with the girls losing 38-22 and the boys winning a nail-biter, 49-47.

The Laker girls led from the first quarter on. They stretched a 15-10 halftime lead into a double-digit final margin with an active defensive second half that led to repeated fast-break opportunities.

Senior Amanda Harris scored 10 points to lead the Warriors, who played shorthanded with three of their starters missing. North Tahoe point guard Liz Buhler led the Laker girls with 17 points.

The boys game was tightly contested, particularly late as the Lakers fought back from a deficit but could not get the tying bucket to go after several attempts in the final minute. Whittell missed a number of free throws down the stretch to give the Lakers a chance.

Whittell senior Austin Neil led all scorers with 19 points, while Bryce Bronken scored 15. Mitchell Myers scored a team-high 13 points for North Tahoe.
