Whittell choir to perform at Disneyland
The George Whittell High School Black & White Choir and concert band have been invited to perform and participate in Disney Magic Music Days June 1 at Disneyland.
Approximately 55 students and chaperones hope to make the trip and donations are needed from community businesses, individuals and service clubs to help with transportation, lodging, meals and admission into the park.
Members of the music groups have been conducting fund-raisers for several months. In addition to performing for service clubs, they have sold Entertainment Books, Christmas CDs, car flags and water bottles. They also sold Christmas trees through the Optimist Club of South Lake Tahoe.
Last year the band participated in a workshop at a Disneyland recording studio, where they cut a CD. One of the nation’s top band directors worked with the group and they were recorded live during the workshop. The band will have the opportunity to participate in a workshop again this year.
“Participation in Disney Music Magic Days is a great learning experience for the students,” said John Houston, Whittell music director.
