JACKPOT, Nev. – The Whittell Warriors are headed to the NIAA State boys golf invite after taking first place in Monday’s 2A regional held at Jackpot Golf Club in Jackpot, Nev.

Near 60 competitors from ten school districts took part in the regional event which Whittell won over Sage Ridge by just seven strokes.

The top three teams from the meet earned State berths. They along with the top five individual competitors not from a qualifying team will make a State championship appearance at Genoa Lakes May 16-17.

Whittell was led by a low score 79 posted by Jake Williams. He was closely followed by teammates Nick Smith (80), TJ Kolesnik and Trevor Fairbank (83), Rob Caliger (98) and Derek Heldt-Werle (99).

Whittell was the only team of ten competing that posted all six of their golfers under 100.

Behind second place Sage Ridge (430), North Tahoe also advanced with a score of 446, finishing third.

A full recap of scores from the tourney, along with comments from Whittell head coach Steve Maltase may be found in Wednesday’s print edition of the Tahoe Daily Tribune.
