Widespread haze expected in Lake Tahoe Basin today

Fires burning in the region are expected to cause widespread haze in the Tahoe Basin today.

Light winds from the west will blow smoke from Northern California fires into the Sierra Nevada and western Nevada, according to the National Weather Service. Haze is expected to be heaviest before 1 p.m.

There will be a chance of isolated thunderstorms Tuesday evening before 9 p.m. There is a 20 percent chance of precipitation in South Lake Tahoe.

There will be a slight chance for afternoon thunderstorms in the Sierra Wednesday, according to the service.

Above average temperatures are expected in the region through the week. South Lake Tahoe’s high temperature will reach 79 degrees through Thursday.

The service says winds will be light for the next few days before increasing in intensity at the end of the week and heading into the weekend.
