Wildfire breaks out behind Motel 6; forward progress stopped

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – A wildfire was reported just after 9 a.m. on July 3, 2023 behind Motel 6 in South Lake Tahoe. 

According to Lisa Herron of the US Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, they were joined by Cal Fire and City of South Lake Tahoe Fire and Rescue who, as of 11 a.m., are still on scene.

Officials say forward progress has been stopped. The cause is currently unknown and being investigated.
