Willette N. Strong

Graveside services will begin at 10 a.m. July 31 at Happy Homestead Cemetery for Willette “Willie” Naomi Strong, who died July 27, 2007, in Gardnerville, Nev.

Willie was born Nov. 25, 1908, in Jackson, Miss. She met and married Lester Strong in the San Francisco Bay Area and wrote a fishing column for a Bay Area newspaper before moving to South Lake Tahoe 46 years ago. She was a successful business woman, managing rental property and investments.

Willie was a philanthropist and was active in and supported many organizations at the South Shore. They included the South Lake Tahoe Branch of the El Dorado County Library, Barton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, Tahoe Rim Trail, Lake Tahoe Community College, South Lake Tahoe Cancer League, Republican Women’s Club, Yacht Club and South Lake Tahoe Senior Center.

Willie enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling around the world and entertaining – especially with parties where she served the fish she caught. She had an outgoing personality and made friends wherever she went. Willie was born and raised in the South and she cherished her Southern heritage. She was always very gracious and loved being with people.

She is survived by nephews, Paul, William, Michael and Richard Wright, all of Seattle, Wash. She was predeceased by her husband, Lester Strong; and sister, Catheryne Wright.
