William Harrington Niebur

William Harrington Niebur, 81, died March 4, 2006, in Gardnerville, Nev.

William was born Oct. 23, 1924, in Wheeling, W. Va., to William J. and Mary Niebur. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, and served in the European Theater with the U.S. Army Military Police during World War II. He married Donna C. Kingston on Feb. 2, 1952.

He was retired as a parole agent with the Alameda County Probation Department and as a peace officer with the state of California Department of Corrections.

He and his wife built a vacation home in Stateline, Nev., in 1970, and resided there full time from 1992 until they moved to Gardnerville in 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Donna C. Niebur of Gardnerville; children, Karen T. Groom of Oakley, Calif., Christopher S. Niebur of West Point, Calif., Jocelyn D. Thompson of Hollywood, Calif., and Shannon P. Gerard of Oakley; brother, Robert Niebur of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and nieces and nephews in Arizona.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by FitzHenry’s Carson Valley Funeral Home.
