Wind advisory issued through noon today

A wind advisory is in effect until noon today for the Lake Tahoe Basin, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

A strong cold front is moving through the Lake Tahoe region this morning, bringing winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph. Winds may gust up to 90 mph over the Sierra crest, according to the weather service.

Winds will decrease this afternoon behind the cold front to 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph, which will continue the rough chop on Lake Tahoe through midday.

Motorists, especially in high profile vehicles, should use caution and remain alert for sudden gusts or cross winds. Boaters should remain off Lake Tahoe today.
