Windjammers host video presentation

Two members of the Lake Tahoe Windjammers Yacht Club will host a video presentation of their respective sailboat crossing from California to Hawaii. The will be be an exciting look into modern day adventuring under sail.

The presentations are scheduled at 6 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Cantina on Highway 89. The cost is $15 per person, which includes a meal. Space is limited to 50 people and reservations must be made by calling (530) 542-1550.

Vic Beelik has made several crossings from Los Angeles to Honolulu aboard different racing sailboats in the Trans-Pacific Yacht Race. Every trip aboard a sailboat has moments to remember. Beelik had many of those moments and recalls them for the audience. His video is both insightful and humorous. This presentation may provide some answers to anyone who has ever wondered what it’s like to cross an ocean aboard a sailboat.

Mike Robinson has recently competed in and completed t he 2002 West Marine Pacific Cup Race from San Francisco to Hawaii aboard a 26-foot sailboat. Robinson sailed in the double-handed division. Just two people aboard a boat whose total living space in the cabin and cockpit might compare to riding in the back of a pickup truck from California to Florida — nonstop. How they prepared themselves, the boat and their families for this endeavor will be very interesting to behold. This trip certainly had some trials and tribulations to overcome. Be there and find out.
