Windjammers to race in ‘Summer Sailstice’

Provided to the Tribune

The Lake Tahoe Windjammers Yacht Club kicks it up another notch this week with special double-header racing events. Paying tribute to the summer solstice, the June 21 Wednesday Night Beer Can Race is dubbed Summer Sailstice and features an extended race course with marks at Camp Richardson and just off Edgewood Tahoe. Summer Sailstice is actually a global celebration for sailing enthusiasts that started in 2000. Visit for details on this international sailing community event.

This Wednesday’s race is also a trial run for the yacht club’s biggest race event of the summer – the June 24 annual Southern Crossing. On Saturday, SOX racing begins at 11 a.m. with separate starts and courses set for racing and non-spinnaker cruising- class boats. Awards for the 2006 Southern Crossing will be presented at a special awards brunch Saturday at the Cantina Restaurant, which will also serve as the club’s general membership meeting for June. All members and guests are encouraged to attend this fun event.

Windjammers membership is open to all who appreciate the world of sailing.
