Wolverines repeat comeback win against Vikings

Staff reports

TRUCKEE, Calif. – Reminiscent of Truckee’s come-from-behind win against South Tahoe just one week ago, the Wolverines again defeated the Vikings in walk-off fashion, 12-11, on Wednesday in Reno.

The Wolverines trailed for most of the Mount Rose League contest before staging another comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Trailing 11-10 entering their final at-bats, Eric Holmer led off with a line-drive shot to center, which got by the diving Viking defender and went to the wall, allowing Holmer to score and tie the game.

After a ground out, Steven Baker doubled to center. Truckee first baseman Ryan Smith then sent a soft liner to right-center to drive in the winning run.

Truckee ended last week’s nonleague game against South Tahoe, which was held at Aces Ballpark, on a walk-off triple. The final score of that game was 11-10.

At the plate on Wednesday, Smith was 3 for 3 with six RBI to lead the Wolverines. Holmer also added an out-of-the-park round-tripper to his in-the-park homer.

Truckee and South Tahoe are both 5-1 in Mount Rose league play. The teams meet again in a league doubleheader Saturday in Carson City.
