Woman connected to car burglaries

William Ferchland

A 41-year-old Vallejo woman was arrested at a toy store in a possible connection to a rash of vehicle burglaries since October 2003, a South Lake Tahoe police officer said.

Robyn Newell is being held at El Dorado County Jail at $50,000 bail on charges including possession of stolen property and use of a stolen credit card, said Detective Robbie Hight.

Newell was taken into custody Saturday at Toy Maniacs while attempting to use a gift certificate bought with a stolen credit card, Hight said.

South Lake Tahoe authorities believe Newell is part of a Bay Area crime ring that breaks into cars to steal purses and other items.

Credit cards in the purses were used by Newell, authorities said.

Hight believes several vehicles are involved in the crimes. They include a 1980s white four-door Mazda and a 1983 Lincoln, dark in color, with a license plate of 4RIJ811.

Anybody with information on the cars or thefts are asked to contact Detective Hight at (530) 542-6100.
