Woman falls at Lakeside
Douglas County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the possibility that
alcohol was involved in the death of a woman last month at Lakeside Inn
and Casino.
Sharlene LaRouche, 48, fell on a long flight of stairs inside the casino’s
north entrance on March 23. It appears no one actually witnessed the fall
around 10:20 p.m., according to Detective Sgt. Tim Minister, but security
videotape did catch some of LaRouche’s activity at the casino.
“She fell from the stairs and struck her head on the tile floor. She hit
the floor with so much force she may have been running or may have
tripped. We don’t believe any foul play was involved,” he said. “I believe
that alcohol could have been a contributing factor.”
Casino security found LaRouche and called for an ambulance. She was taken
to Barton Memorial Hospital and then air lifted to Washoe Medical Center
where she was later declared brain dead.
