Woman robbed outside casino

William Ferchland

A man wearing a dark ski mask and armed with a small handgun tried to rob a man and woman at the Stateline casinos last week, a Douglas County sheriff’s deputy said.

Late Thursday night Robert Campiglia, a 66-year-old from Atlantic City, was approached by the unidentified man who demanded money from Campiglia and pointed a gun at the New Jersey man’s head, Sgt. Tom Mezzetta said.

Campiglia “refused to hand over any money and turned and walked into the casino,” Mezzetta stated. Although the man left the area, authorities believe he approached Maria Alvarado 20 minutes later at a different casino parking lot.

Alvarado gave her purse to the man, then ran when the man told her to leave the area or be shot, Mezzetta said.

Mezzetta did not disclose the amount of money taken or the casinos at which the crime took place.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department is seeking to identify the person or persons responsible for these acts.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator Ted Duzan at (775) 586-7255 or Secret Witness at (775) 782-7463.
