Woman’s cause of death unknown

An autopsy on Monday was unable to determine how a Round Hill woman died.

Douglas County sheriff’s investigators are continuing their investigation into the suspicious death of Carol Macken, who was found dead Saturday at 5 p.m.

The cause of death has not been determined but investigators are treating it as a homicide, said Lt. Mike Biaggini. The department will wait until further tests are completed, including toxicology, to find the reason why the retired 62-year-old died, said Chief Deputy Bob Rudnick.

“We treat everything as a homicide until we decide differently,” Biaggini said. “We take a lot of steps to be very careful.”

Deputies were called to Macken’s residence on a welfare check. Macken’s daughter reportedly became concerned after her mother failed to answer phone calls.

The two talked frequently, Biaggini said.

Investigators do not believe anything was stolen from the residence.

No other details were released by the sheriff’s department.
