Wrestling Club seeking wrestlers

Sign-up for the South Tahoe Wrestling Club has been scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 6 at the South Tahoe Middle School old gym. Come ready to practice.

South Tahoe Wrestling Club is for boys and girls in the South Shore area age 5 through high school. The club began in 1994 and it takes pride in teaching skills of discipline, dedication and determination through the sport of Olympic-style wrestling.

Practices will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at STMS. The season starts in January and finishes at the end of March for most wrestlers. The post season, April through July, is for the regional and national qualifiers. Younger and inexperienced wrestlers leave practice at 7 p.m. Wrestling tournaments are on the weekend, usually Sundays, in the Reno, Carson City, Fallon and South Tahoe area.

The cost of the club is a one-time $60 fee that includes a beginning of the year team photo, secondary insurance that has a deductible, T-shirt, shoes, uniform and end of year banquet. Tournament fees are extra and are usually $8 to $10 per wrestler per tournament.

The equipment necessary for participation is standard physical education clothing such as an old T-shirt, sweat pants and athletic shoes that do not have a metallic eyelet.

Scholarships are available to those who need assistance. All practices are mandatory for anyone who receives a scholarship.
