Yacht Club awards scholarship

South Tahoe High School student James Moore was given a $1,000 scholarship by the South Lake Tahoe Yacht Club at their July 11 dinner meeting.

Moore earned this honor because of his commitment to community service coupled with his successful academic record.

The son of Gary and Angela Moore, he will attend California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, in the fall to study business management.

In addition to being an excellent student, Moore has been a Tahoe Youth & Family Services youth board member, a leader in student government, and gives his time to help others every chance he gets. Last year he was an organizer of the successful South Tahoe High School Dodge Ball Tournament that benefited Hurricane Katrina victims.
