If there is one thing that is nearly ubiquitous at Tahoe it’s a love of dogs. In fact, dog ownership is a prerequisite in order to live in the basin (fun fact).

A close second behind dogs in terms of universal appeal is craft beer. (Another fun fact: With a population of approximately 40,000 people Tahoe has four craft breweries per capita.)

Combine dogs and craft beers and, well, you have an event that is just about as Tahoe as the lake’s crystal-clear water.

South Lake Brewing Company is hosting such an event Wednesday when the local brewery brings back its “Yappy Hour.”

What is Yappy Hour, you ask?

It’s fairly straightforward: show up with your four-legged friend — make sure he/she is on a leash — between 5 and 8 p.m. and receive $1-2 off each pint. Yes, you get discounted beer for bringing that friend that you would have brought with you anyway.

Also as part of the evening’s fun, South Lake Brewing Company will be hosting Tahoe Tails and Trails and Animal Rescue, a pet-sitting service that also rescues animals and helps them find a loving home (find more information at tahoetailsandtrails.com).

Tahoe Tails and Trails and Animal Rescue will be on site during Yappy Hour with some of their adoptable dogs.

As SLBC explains, this is a great opportunity for those considering adoption.

If you’re thinking, “this sounds like a great time but I can’t make it this Wednesday,” have no fear. SLBC is making his a regular event each month at their brewery and taproom.

“Here at SLBC, you know we love dogs! So much so that we’re working on dedicating a day to them once a month,” states the event description.
