Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra recently honored three students from Tahoe Montessori School as recipients of the On Your Way Award. This award is designed to recognize students who are working especially hard to improve their literacy skills.

The three students are Nicholas Brogna, Duncan Mackay and Katherine Tucker. Each student was presented a plaque in the presence of their peers, awarded a $25 gift certificate to Neighbors Bookstore, and a book was donated to the school on behalf of each recipient.

Third-grader Nicholas Brogna was selected because he is a very focused and independent student. As a result of his efforts, his confidence in his reading has grown tremendously. Nicholas likes to read because he can imagine things. His favorite book is “Harry Potter.”

Duncan Mackay is in the fourth grade and was selected because he has developed the ability to focus and finds pleasure in reading. Duncan likes to read when he travels and at bedtime. His favorite book is “The Chronicles of Narnia.”

Fifth-grade student Katherine Tucker was selected because her ability and love of reading has blossomed.

According to Katherine, “Reading is a whole new experience that takes you away from regular life to a whole new world.” Her favorite book is “Eldest.”
