Zephyr Cove Elementary radon issue addressed tonight at community meeting

With the discovery this summer of the radioactive gas radon in its classrooms, Zephyr Cove Elementary School parents and administrators will meet tonight during a community discussion to ask questions and determine what options are available.

Parents are threatening to pull their children out of the school unless they get some satisfactory answers as to what is in store for the school. The meeting will discuss options and timelines.

Tonight’s meeting is at George Whittell High School, 240 Warrior Way, in Zephyr Cove. It begins at 6:30 p.m.

” What is the latest radon update?

” What about using Kingsbury Middle School as the pre-kindergarten through sixth-grad school rather than Zephyr Cove Elementary?

” What about mold found at Kingsbury Middle School?

” What is the estimate to ameliorate the radon danger?

” What is the cost estimate, including the roof, for Kingsbury Middle School? The cost estimate for ridding radon at Zephyr Cove?

” What is the plan to address the radon, including timeline and ongoing monitoring?

” How long will it take to know if the remediation action for the radon disposal is effective?

” Why not postpone consolidation of Zephyr Cove Elementary, Kingsbury Middle School and Whittell High School for a year until the radon issues are resolved?
