GRASS VALLEY, Calif. -A 59-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 20 near Scotts Flat Reservoir Tuesday night.
The man, identified as David Blakemore, was driving a 2004 GMC pickup westbound near Rock Creek Road at a high rate of speed at about 5:30 p.m., according to a California Highway Patrol report.
Blakemore was in the process of moving to Grass Valley, said Nevada County Coroner Paul Schmidt. He was hauling a small utility trailer.
Blakemore, who was from Zephyr Cove, drifted off the roadway edge, then over-corrected, driving into the oncoming traffic lane and then off the edge of the road, hitting several large pine trees.
He sustained massive blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene, the report said.
Highway 20 was closed for about 45 minutes while the accident was being investigated. Blakemore apparently was not wearing a seatbelt and his air bag did not deploy.
The woman killed in a solo-vehicle accident Monday on Interstate 80 has been identified as Ruby Navarette. She was not wearing her seatbelt when she lost control of her car, hit the center divide and was ejected.
